What a wonderful feast we had today. Karen Tucker Catering caused lots of smiles and full tummies for the folks at the Smith Center. We all needed a nap afterward. Thank you so much Karen for all you do for us. Scroll down to see some pictures taken during our Feast.
Remember, the Center will be closed Thursday, the 26th and Friday, the 27th. We will resume as usual on Monday, November 30th. Please enjoy a safe and blessed Thanksgiving. We are thankful that your family member attends the Center.

Thanksgiving Poem Winners

Thanksgiving Prayer
by Wendy Roy
First harvest in the New World was celebrated by the Pioneer,
And we celebrate it every year.
We go through the motions of the holiday,
Like watching an instant replay.
How many of us really give thanks from the heart,
For what was given to us from the start?
The freedom to live as we choose,
And to abide by the Golden Rule.
So as we go to sleep each night,
We should thank God for that right.
My Blessing

I am thankful for the friends that I get to see.
I am thankful for the ones I call family.
I am anxious to see those innocent smiles,
The time I spend daily, is all worthwhile.
How could I not be affected by this?
For here at the Center, I am truly blessed.
I am thankful for the friends that I get to see.
I am thankful for the ones I call family.
Make no mistake, though I have family at home,
The Smith Center is where I have truly grown.
Multiple ideas and laughter to share,
When I look in the eyes of those that care.
I am thankful for the friends that I get to see.
I am thankful for the ones I call family.
They give their everything, without asking for any
I did not know I could be loved by so many,
With their heart on their sleeve and smiles on their face,
God holds them near in his warm embrace.
I am thankful for the friends that I get to see.

A New Thing at the Smith Center
The Smith Center now has a blog. We hope this will be an informative, fun way to let our community know what we are doing. Staff, Board Members, family members, and our individuals will all have the opportunity to check the blog for information, pictures, calendars, and lots more. Please let us know your thoughts and ideas about this new tool.
You might know us by the name "Autauga/Western Elmore Arc" or "AWE/Arc" or the "Smith Center" or the "Louise M. Smith Developmental Center", but you don't know exactly what we do. Well, we are an organization of individuals, families, and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our individuals receive services that provide opportunities, guidance, and the experiences necessary to make informed choices, exercising their rights as participating members of their community.
